where to buy japanese ingredients in Montreal

There are a few Corean/Japanses grocary shop in Montreal. One is on st-catherine, 1 block east from the AMC at water.

Eden in La Cite ( a bit pricy).

There is 2 in NDG called Banzai and Miyamoto.

And most of Chinese grocery shops has some japanese products, too.
Generally, chinese stores are cheaper.

Mirin
A must buy to cook japanese cuisine. Mirin.

Tsuyu
There are several brand of tsuyu ( combination of dashi(fish bloth), soy sauce and mirin). this is useful when you don't want to be bothered to major how much each of those 3 ingredients to put.
Dashi
You can make dashi from scratch with Bonito, Niboshi(small dried fish) or Kombu, too.
